Other Events on Mount Panorama.

Yet it is the Athletic events that seem to have faded into history and forgotten. Both the King of the Mountain and Mitchell 1000 fun runs were significant running events on the famous Circuit. In fact, founded in 1965 by Les Lovell, the open format of King of the Mountain event was that successful that it was claimed as “Australia’s first annual fun run”.

Away from the Car and Motor Cycles events there have been plenty of other sports contested on Mount Panorama. Of course the Circuit has hosted many major cycling events including the recent the B2B weekend which features the current NSW Hill Climb Championship. Prior to that there was the NSW Road Cycling Champs and Bathurst Junior Tour, while going back a couple of decades and the Miyata Mountain Classic featured many high profile riders, including Olympic Champion Kathy Watt. The Panorama Pedal 600 established by UCI Administrator Martin Whitely was a potentially classic but maybe ahead of its time.
