Road Race Report / 20/21 Bathurst Interclub Australian Day Triathlon
« on: January 27, 2021, 11:17:58 AM »
Bathurst Wallabies 20/21 Interclub Australian Day Triathlon sponsored by Findex.
With well over 100 Triathlete racing the different event at the 2021 Australian Day Findex Triathlon the race was again a great success. While the heat and covid19 virus added extra challenges in 2021 the times recorded by the winners of the long course championship event was very fast.
The 2021 event was the 5th time Bathurst has hosted the Australia Day Triathlon with the current Interclub series format. While the controlled dead heat finish in the Open Men Long Course race was an impressive performance by the young Orange stars Rory Thornhill & Tom Tudor they only missed the fastest time on the course by a handful of seconds, and it raises the Question if the pair raced to the finish whether they would have broken Nick North time from 2016 when he recorded 48:13.
Orange’s Sophie Martin became one of the few female athletes to break the 60mins barrier on the Bathurst Grand Prix Course recording 59:31 when defeating team mates Molly and Jessie Dean. However the female record is an amazing 54:28 set by Jess Richards back in 2016 when she sizzled around the bike leg, top Bathurst athlete Emily Watts challenged that time in both 2020 and 2017.
It should be noted that the addition of the car park transition has made a slight change to the course, so Conner Whiteley’s 49:32 and Emily Watts’s 55:41 could be considered the fastest times for the current Bathurst course going into the 2021 event, which of course Thornhill & Tudor broke on the weekend.

Both Malachi Covington and Taylor Forrest also picked up penalties which dropped them from the top 10 with Nic Barrett (1m45s) Nick North (1min) moving up into the top5 followed by Oscar Hansen, Mick Foran, Jack Cannon, Drew Tuckwell and David Nicholas with Mark Windsor and Steven Scott rounding out the top12.

GREAT START TO THE 2021 BATHURST CYCLING CLUB ROAD SEASON:
The Bathurst Cycling Club New Road Season started today with the first event of 2021. After a surprisingly successful season in 2020 given the covid19 pandemic, the firers and a structural review of  the sport in Australia the 2021 year also started well with over 40 entries in the 30km Handicap which raced up Quarry Hill.
Early leaders were Rosemary Hastings and Lara Allen. From a cycling family Lara is a current NSW Country Junior medallist and was having her first senior start. It is very significant that Lara rode with Bathurst Cycling Legend Rosemary Hastings in her first start, as Rosey can boost that a number of top class international riders have begun their senior road careers riding with her.

David Hyland, Peter Hickey, Trudy O'Connor and Cathy Adams soon joined the leading pair, but hard riding Jille Harris was the looking dangerous and would soon move into contention for the win.

The other group that looked in contention in the early stages was the 4minute bunch of Nic Barrett Tony Shaw and David Reece, who where all working smoothly on their Cevello Cycles. They quickly joined Nathan Pearce Ray Thorn Geoff Short Steven Scott and where moving in on the 7minute bunch (which included Toireasa Gallagher Darren Fenton Peter Wilson Ebony Robinson Scott James and Rod Esdaile).

The three back groups looked to have a tough task with the scratch markers (Craig Hutton & Simon Hickey) giving away 18minutes start. Current World Para Cycling Champion David Nicholas was impressive breaking clear of co-markers Steve Bennett and Tony Barlow in a bold attempt to catch the middle markers. This applied plenty of pressure on the other backmarkers with Craig Hutton breaking clear of Simon Hickey, however Mark Windsor showed his experience to remain calm and worked smoothly with hard riding Jack Cannon. This proved to be the correct tactic as it would be Windsor and Cannon that would become the biggest threat to the leaders in the final stages of the race.

At the final turn it was the Cevello 4minute group had joined a big bunch in the lead and seemed set for victory, however Windsor and Cannon had picked up Nicholas and Tony Barlow and were quickly catching the leaders. At the finish line it was close, but the 4 minute group of Nic Barrett David Reece and Tony Shaw that hung-on for the win.

Recent Weal Trophy Winner Nic Barrett continuing his great form of 2020 to win the first event of 2021, with David Reece and Tony Shaw talking the major placings, Ray Thorn and Rod Esdaile rounding out the top 5 ahead of Steven Scott

Mark Windsor lead the chasing group home to record fastest time in the first race of 2021, second fastest was Jack Cannon in front of Craig Hutton and David Nicholas
While the top placed female was Jille Harris and the fastest female Toireasa Gallagher. While Robyn Partridge defeated Tracey Robinson in E Grade.

2020 BCC Christmas Hamper Race
This weekend’s Bathurst Cycling Club’s Christmas Hamper Race is traditionally the final race of the year for the Road Season. Although the original intention for this event was that it be more a social event, in the past it has become a very difficult race to win, with the clubs overseas based riders returning home for Christmas and racing the event keen to win a hamper.
Talented juniors Luke Tuckwell and Deren Perry took first and second in A Grade after aggressive rides, NSW masters Champ Mark Windsor finishing 3rd in front of Jack Cannon. Parramatta rider, Perry is Tuckwell’s madison partner, with the pair combining in 2019 to win the NSW junior Championship.
A very good field lined up in B Grade, with another talented junior Cadel Lovett winning from former Bathurst A Grade Champion Steve Bennett and the winner of the 2020 B grade Road Series David Reece
Former Bathurst Champ, Robert Stephen bounced back to form to defeat Toireasa Gallagher for the Hamper in C Grade, Peter Wilson riding an excellent race to finish 3rd in front of Rod Esdaile who attacked a number of times in the race.

Road Race Report / Bcc Teams Time Trial – 14km - 6th December 2020
« on: December 06, 2020, 09:16:17 PM »
Bcc Teams Time Trial – 6th December 2020
14km Clubhouse - Ryans Road - Finish Perthville.

One of the cycling disciplines that was difficult to organise in 2020 due to the shortened club cycling program was Team Time Trailing - with Bathurst Cycling unable to send any teams to the state championships in 2020. The club has a great record in the TTT State Premierships with a number of recent wins at the titles, in fact BathurstCC is often the top Country Club in the state rankings.

With the year quickly drawing to a close, Road Cycling Organiser Glen Partridge scheduled a TTT on the weekend and although the event clashed with a number of other cycling promotions there was some excellent racing at the event.

The overall winning team of Luke Tuckwell and Mark Windsor averaged around 45km per hour in the wind on the 14km course to set the overall fastest time.
The team of Ray Thorn, Dan Googe & Nic Barrett had a great battle with the Tony Shaw David Reece Team in B grade. While Graham Stait Rob Stephen and Kalinda Robinson won C Grade.
D Grade was won by Marian Renshaw Rosemary Hastings and Peter Hickey, while the E Grade was taken out by Joanne Renshaw Robyn Partridge.
