Local junior Luke Tuckwell training is right on track ahead of the 2021 Under19 Australian Road Championship in Victoria. Tuckwell combined with the Avantias Pro Racing Team of Finley Moutter Stephen Cuff Joshua Brodie Taylor Forrest & Malachi Covington and fellow NSW Rider Deren Perry to ride through the entire field off Scratch and win the weekends Bathurst Cycling Club 18km Screamer Handicap.
Rosemary Hasting held the lead for the first half of the event before challenged by middle markers. However back in the field the backmarkers were on a mission. The scratchmarkers catching the BlockBunch of Jack Cannon, Mark Windsor, David Nicholas and Nick North at the final turn and then targeting the 1min 45sec supergroup of Nic Barrett, David Reece, Steve Scott, Steve Bennett, Drew Tuckwell, Ray Thorn, Tony Shaw and promising Orange juniors Patrick Crump and Xavier Bland who had burst to the lead in the second half of the race.
The scratchmarkers took the lead in the final 500m of the race with Luke Tuckwell and Avantias Pro Racing Team rider Finley Moutter fighting out the finish but a rule infringement earlier in the event for Moutter resulted in an impressive win for Tuckwell.
Ebony Robinson (6min) and Xavier Bland (1min 45sec) turned some heads with their performances, the youngsters put in a great finish to take podium placings in the event. Both Malachi Covington and Taylor Forrest also picked up penalties which dropped them from the top 10 with Nic Barrett (1m45s) Nick North (1min) moving up into the top5 followed by Oscar Hansen, Mick Foran, Jack Cannon, Drew Tuckwell and David Nicholas with Mark Windsor and Steven Scott rounding out the top12.
