Road Race Report / Re: Queen Birthday Handicap - O’Regans Loop

BATHURST ISUZU UTE QUEEN BIRTHDAY HANDICAP - Presented by Clancy Motors Bathurst - Monday, June 13, 2022

It was a tough start to the race having to complete 2 laps of the hilly O’Regans Loop. Rosemary Hastings, Cathy Adams and Kevin Bell leading the way with Glen Partridge, Rob Stephen, and Brian Draper working well and looking threatening. The big 10minute bunch which included Darren Fenton, Peter Wilson, Charlotte Lovett, Bryce Stacker, Lachlan Crump, Toireasa Gallagher, Bruce Hutton and Dave Claypole were widely tipped as favourites before the start however started to break up early on the hills and lose momentum.

There was plenty of youth in the Scratch Bunch with top local juniors Cadel Lovett, Josiah Cook and Xavier Bland joining experienced backmarker Craig Hutton to quickly catch block (Nicholas Barrett, Billy Hutton, Oscar Hansen) and second block (Mark Windsor, Dave Hansen, Tony Shaw & Robert Jeffries). This big group of back markers quickly started riding through the field.

By the final turn the big group of backmarkers had rode through the field to the lead and attacks started with Xavier Bland, Nic Barrett and Mark Windsor all trying to break clear.

However in the end the race came down to a 6 rider sprint with only a couple of centimeters between Orange stars Josiah Cook and Xavier Bland with Josiah awarded the win. Third was Bathurst’s Cadel Lovett in front of Oscar Hansen with Billy Hutton taking fifth ahead of Mark Windsor. Tony Shaw, Brian Draper, Robert Jeffries and Nicholas Barrett rounding out the top 10.

First and fastest in the Female category was Cathy Adams recording 1:30:00 for the course.  Rosemary Hastings was second in the female category and Charlotte Lovett third.

Unofficial 2022 Western NSW ESport Cycling RESULTS
Ahead of the official results which will be released by Auscycling Officials sometime 27th May 2022.. The early Zwift results suggests the following results for the c Champs
A Grade
Dubbo’s Kate Spicer looks to have successfully defended her A Grade Western Division Title, defeating top Bathurst female riders Bec Manning and Kirsten Howard, with Bathurst riders Jenn Arnold and Ange Falzarano not far from the Podium.
Mark Windsor, runner-up in last years A Grade Western NSW A Grade Men title to Orange’s Luke Tuckwell, looks to have gone one better in 2022 defeating Will Hodges who had connection problems.
B Grade
Bathurst looks likely to win both Western NSW B Grade titles with Alex Banner the likely Female winner and Jack Cannon defeating Cal Baker in the men title.
C Grade
C Grade Championship is very close, with riders from all 4 Western Clubs in the mix for a spot on the podium in the men’s title. Dubbos Tim Howlett and Seb Hanscomb, Bathurst’s Hamer & Reece; Oranges Yeo and Mudgee’s van Schaik & Jonny Empson are all only a hand full of seconds apart in the sprint finish. Others in the mix including Gary Barber, Gary Baker, Rod Lovett and Peter Wilson
However it does look like Mudgee will take the C Grade female title with nice performances by Giselle Denley and Lauren Carr
D Grade
There was a great battle for the D Grade men’s championship between Bathurst and Mudgee with Rod Esdaile (Bathurst) and Rowan Rowlands (Mudgee) less than a second apart at the finish. Bennett, Robinson, Borg and Honeyman not far away also. While Bathurst is likely to make a clear sweep of the D Grade female podium with Claire Scott Cathy Adams and Rosie Hastings….

Stay Tune for the official results

Road Race Report / 2022 Carroll/Scott Memorial Triathlon
« Last post by Mark on March 20, 2022, 06:37:39 PM »
13th running of the Carroll/Scott Memorial Triathlon Today.
The inaugural event was held February 2008 but in recent times the event sadly had to be cancelled a couple of times due to covid19 and road permissions.
Considered much more than just the premier trophy race of the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon club’s calendar, in the early days the event was also considered the club championship. It is also very much a part of the club’s DNA as it is linked to the establishment of the club, remembering life members Dave Carroll and Dave Scott who were both at the initial meeting to discuss the forming of the club.

The men’s event has been dominated by 2 athletes, Richard Hobson in the early years and then Nick North.
It was Nick North that continued this amazing record again in 2022 defeating Will Kelly and Mark Windsor in the feature event setting the fastest time for that course this summer. Former Club Champ Josh Stapley 4th with Sebastian Prior rounding out the top 5 in front of Declan.
Nick now has the remarkable record of racing the Carroll/Scott Memorial Triathlon 8 times and winning every time he has started it.

While there has been a female winner each year since the 2008 event, it seems Carroll/Scott Memorial trophy for the female triathletes was first awarded in 2012. In that time there has been many impressive winners however the 2022 winner Mercede Cornelius-Feltus will certainly go down as one of the most impressive; doing an extra lap in the pool before winning in an excellent time. Top Bathurst sportswomen Candice Falconer was runner up in front of Chelsea Hosking with Tania Pringle and Virginia van Gend making up the top 5, and Fallon Weal, Bec Oconnor and Amanda Robinson rounding out the top 8.

The Club also held a Long Course Support Event which was won by Aaron Burgess in the mens category and one of Bathurst top endurance athletes Kathleen Stutsel defeating  Catherine West, with Barb Hill talking 3rd infront of Rebecca Hamment.
