Trofeo Alcide Degasperi & Coppa della Pace(Italy UCI 1.2)
« on: June 04, 2018, 07:04:10 AM »
Tim Guy in Action in Italy last weekend.

Local Professional cyclist Tim Guy was in action on the weekend in Italy racing the Trofeo Alcide Degasperi on Saturday 3rd June and the Coppa della Pace on the Sunday. Sadly Tim was sick for both the events forcing an early retirement in the Trofeo Alcide Degasperi.

Dimension Data for Qhubeka team riders featured heavily in both races with African U23 Champion Stefan de Bod breaking clear with Team Biesse’s Simone Ravanelli to fight out the Trofeo Alcide Degasperi, while Matteo Sobrero won the Coppa della Pace for Dimension Data after finishing runner up in the Gran Premio Industrie del Marmo a couple of weeks ago.

Tim was disappointed to be crook for the 63rd running of the Trofeo Alcide Degasperi, given the past winners included Bahrain Merida Sprinter Sonny Colbrelli and top class Mitchelton-Scott Sprinter Matteo Trentin who defeated Moreno Moser in 2011, Australia has also been on the podium with Rohan Dennis (BMC) and Damien Howson (Mitchelton-Scott).

Determined to keep focused on Day2, Tim pushed hard early in the Coppa della Pace (a race that Australian Richie Porte has finished on the Podium) hoping to be feeling a little healthier for the 170km event at Sant'Ermete near Remini on Italy’s classic Adriatic coast.

Showing plenty of determination early to get up the front and follow some moves, things where looking much better for Tim at the Coppa della Pace, however luck still wasn’t with him as he crashed and broke a hanger. The bike change went okay but the spare bike set-up was no good, which resulted in more time back in the convoy in the second half of the race having the adjustments done. The result was a tough run onto the climb and a withdrawal from the event but after a much-improved showing from the previous day.

It was disappointing for the Orange Cyclist to do the events not at his best as it was the major leadup races for the Tour of Slovenia on the 13th June where his Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum will be racing against riders such as Cavendish, Ewan, Kettel and Groenewegen, with many of the sprint trains using the tour in there preparation for the Tour de France. Of Course this would also mean that Tim would be racing alongside Bathurst Champion Mark Renshaw who will be leading out Dimension Data leader Mark Cavendish at the Slovenian race. But sadly Tim’s fitness looks like he may rule him out of the 2018 Tour of Slovenia Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum Team.
