9th Tour of Taihu Lake & Japan Cup
Tim Guy and his Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum Team are currently racing the Tour of Taihu Lake in preparation for one of the Worlds Cycling Season’s final major events the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race on the 21st October.

This year is the 9th running of the Tour of Taihu Lake which first won by Australian David Kemp in 2010. The Bathurst region had a connection with the tour in 2014 when local cyclists Blair Windsor’s team Budget Forklifts won the Tour with Sam Witmitz.

This year the race starts with a 5km Prologue at Wuxi followed by stages to Maoshan (130.6k) Jinhu (88.5k) and Jiangyan (98.6k) with the tour’s longest stage to Haimen (146.5k) on the 12th October followed by a 116km stage to Wujiang and the final stage to Changxing (137.5k) on the 14/10/2018

Last year’s winner Jakub Mareczko will be hoping for a strong performance in one of his final rides with his Wilier Triestina Selle Italia Team before heading to the World Tour with the new CCC Team in 2019.

Tim Guy and his Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum Team are looking forward to the Japan Cup as they will be supporting their star rider of 2018 Tadej Pogacar who will be leaving the team in 2019 to ride for World Tour team UAE-Team Emirates with Dan Martin and Fabio Aru.

Pogacar has had a wonderful season and local cyclist Tim Guy has been very excited to watch the development of the young Slovenian in the Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum program in which he is a part sponsor.

Tadej Pogacar recent performances suggest he will be a contender in the Japan Cup even though the race includes a number of top world Tour teams such as BMC Racing Team, Mitchelton-Scott, Team EF Education First-Drapac p/b Cannondale, Team LottoNL-Jumbo and Trek – Segafredo.

Pogacar was 7th in the recent U23 World Championships at Innsbruck which came after Outright Wins in the 54th Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia and the prestigious Tour de l'Avenir  where he defeated Thymen Arensman  Netherlands and  Gino Mäder  Switzerland.

Stage4:
Another win for the St. George team in the 9th Tour of Taihu Lake, with Dylan Kennett taking the sprint into Jiangyan ahead of Leonardo Bonifazio (Nippo - Vini Fantini - Europa Ovini). The top placed Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum riders were Ziga Jerman in 7th and Ben Hill in 20th – while local Tim Guy finishing 31st in the 100km stage into Jiangyan.
Little change to the overall placings with Ben Dyball still in 2nd place overall behind Boris Vallee  and Ben Hill still in the top10.

Stage 5, 6 & 7

Strong finish by Tim Guy in China:
Tim Guy has finished the Tour of Taihu Lake strongly, claiming top 30 finishes in all of the final 3 stages. These results came after supporting his Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum team’s sprinter Ziga Jerman in the hectic closing stages of the Tour.

Jerman was 5th in the final stage of the tour into Changxing, the 138km stage was won by Jakub Mareczko of Wilier Triestina with Guy impressing finishing 26th

Boris Vallee  of Wanty Groupe Gobert took the overall victory with local St. George Continental Cycling Team having a wonderful tour with Aussie Ben Dyball finishing second overall infront of the GC riders from  UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Israel Cycling Academy and Jelly Belly.

Dylan Kennett also had a super tour for St George leading overall for the first couple of stages after winning the opening prologue, then finishing on the podium in Stage 6, finishing 3rd behind Jordan Parra into Wujiang. Tim Guy finishing 25th in that stage in what turn out to be a rough stage for Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum with their GC rider Ben Hill having trouble and withdrawing from the tour.
