20/21 Bathurst Interclub Australian Day Triathlon
« on: January 27, 2021, 11:17:58 AM »
Bathurst Wallabies 20/21 Interclub Australian Day Triathlon sponsored by Findex.
With well over 100 Triathlete racing the different event at the 2021 Australian Day Findex Triathlon the race was again a great success. While the heat and covid19 virus added extra challenges in 2021 the times recorded by the winners of the long course championship event was very fast.
The 2021 event was the 5th time Bathurst has hosted the Australia Day Triathlon with the current Interclub series format. While the controlled dead heat finish in the Open Men Long Course race was an impressive performance by the young Orange stars Rory Thornhill & Tom Tudor they only missed the fastest time on the course by a handful of seconds, and it raises the Question if the pair raced to the finish whether they would have broken Nick North time from 2016 when he recorded 48:13.
Orange’s Sophie Martin became one of the few female athletes to break the 60mins barrier on the Bathurst Grand Prix Course recording 59:31 when defeating team mates Molly and Jessie Dean. However the female record is an amazing 54:28 set by Jess Richards back in 2016 when she sizzled around the bike leg, top Bathurst athlete Emily Watts challenged that time in both 2020 and 2017.
It should be noted that the addition of the car park transition has made a slight change to the course, so Conner Whiteley’s 49:32 and Emily Watts’s 55:41 could be considered the fastest times for the current Bathurst course going into the 2021 event, which of course Thornhill & Tudor broke on the weekend.
