Round 3 Bathurst Orienteering Series – CSU - 18th Feb 2018

International Orienteerer Tuve Moeller of Sweden was one of the visitors in Bathurst for the latest round of the Bathurst Orienteering Summer Series. Round 3 of the Bathurst Series was held in the grounds of Charles Sturt University which last September was used at the National Orienteering Carnival.

The Long Course competition was a great battle with Bathurst’s Mark Windsor using his local knowledge to great advantage to record 12min 23sec with Tuve Moeller only 9 seconds behind in second place in 12min 32sec. There was another tight battle for third overall with only 4seconds between Chris Green (Wattle Flat) and Basil Baldwin (Orange) however under pressure Green missed a checkpoint giving Baldwin third overall in 19min 25sec
Top Female was also an excellent competition with Gabi Burge (23:46) and Beatrice Humphries (23:47) only 1 second apart with Emily Boehm edging Kim Melhuish for third place. Organisers very impressed with the top junior on the day Raph Pearce who Baldwin suggests has excellent potential in the sport.

Chris Green bounced back to take out the Moderate course in a time of 15:29 with top veteran competitor Jean Baldwin of Orange the first female and second overall in 18min 38sec with another of the sports organisers Richard Carter (Orange) third overall. Nicole & Russell Deans showed good navigation skills to defeating Michelle, Megan & Marcus Harper in another close battle for the leading family team.

The Easy Course was won by the flying Jac Burge 25min10sec from Kirsten Ingwersen in 26min 41sec.

The final round of the Bathurst Series will be held on Sunday at the Boundary Road Reserve – signs from Mid-West Highway. All Welcome.
