REVIEW OF WESTERN DIVISION CHAMPS
INFO - Sun, Jun 8, - Mark Windsor
To - Western Div Committee and Clubs -- Re - 2025 Western Division Champs
Hi All. - Sorry I am late in sending out this email regarding proposed dates for the 2025 Western Division Road Championships. But put simply there doesn't seem to be much interest in running a road title these days - Or more accurately it's getting quite difficult to host these titles..
Happy to formalise a championship if we are interested in running one - It would be Dubbo's turn - Happy to discuss any possible options - ie changing the champs to a criterium - or even a gravel or Cyclo Cross event..

Re - Continuation of western division championships – and acknowledgment of committee for 2025
So The Question Becomes Do We Fold The Western Division Group?
1Divisional and Country Championships don't really fit the Auscycling centralised racing structure.
2Tougher traffic permissions – stopping events
3Clubs simply focusing on their club racing, given the increased workload on club officials
4Increased travelling expenses.
5Significant drop in the opportunity to get media coverage for local cycling events

Re – 2024 Western Division Cycling Championships
Hi All, Just bit of an Update of the 2024 Western Division Cycling Champs. As Normal we hope to have: -
1 Road Race (& ITT if Possible)
2 Junior Champs if possible
3 an Esports Championship – which is run in conjunction with the final round of the Auscycling National club series.
4 the Track Championships are not held consistently but are available if a club wishes to host the carnival

DETAILS
Senior Champs:
In recent years the WD Champs have just been included in the Club Racing Program and Permissions, this will again be the case in 2024. Dubbo held the titles last year so we are expecting that the titles will be held in Bathurst this year – (yet if Orange or Mudgee can host the championships, we would encourage them to organise it).
While the Road Race is the feature event it is likely an ITT title will also be held, but given it needs to fit into the club racing permissions, these events will be on separate weekends.
Generally, the Road Champs are held in Sept however with Amy’s Ride (World’s Qualifier) and the Junior & Masters Nationals in Sept, may push the WD Titles back to Oct – stay tuned for a proposed date soon.

Junior Champs:
The junior western division championship is not only dependent only on the calendar and race permissions but also the availability of course etc – a bit more investigation required yet.

Esports Champs:
The Western Division Esports Championship has been held since the covid lock-down in 2021, with the 4th championship to be held on 1st August 2024 – in conjunction with Round 6 Auscycling Club Esports Series on the Innsbruckring circuit.

Re - 2022 WD Champs
Hi All - Looking to lock in some details on the 2022 Western Division Road (&Esport) Championships
Covid Lock downs cancelled the Road event in 2022 (plus Road Permissions are proving to be a big hurdle to the future of the event)
Last year Bathurst was going to run the event of course covid cancelled everything in the end and we just held a Western Div Esports Championship
So in 2022:
Bathurst Cycling Club potentially can run the event around September as part of their Club Program (TBC).. But again though we should check if another Club wants to run the event.
If no objections will ask the club whether they will be able to schedule it into the club’s program.
Meanwhile the ESports Titles last year seemed to have been a very easy way to keep a Western Division Cycling Championship going, and expect all to agree that we run the event again along the guidelines used last year.. ie using the local club results in the final round of Part 1 of the Auscycling Esports Series on the
6.30pm AEST Thursday 26th May - Makuri Islands (Electric Loop Course)
With a Western Div ITT title potentially later in the series – TBC.

Re Future Championships
Hi all - Just a bit of info to think about this time.
Been a tough year for organising the regional Road championships, with Bathurst CC having to cancel due to lockdown. While it is generally accepted that Bathurst will try to again run the Road Championships in 2022 – we should make that official...
So if there are no concern the Western Division Road Championship will be held as part of the Bathurst general Club road calendar again in 2022.. While it has always been in August or September in the past - Bathurst will look to schedule the Championships into their 2022 road program, and then hope it can get sanctioning as the NSW program is announced... more on that soon..
Just a reminder of the Roster for running the Western Division Road Champs
Bathurst – Mudgee – Orange – Dubbo
However Mudgee have explained they are sitting out of the schedule due to losing their permissions, I expect Orange might be doing the same now, so I am getting worried about the long term future…. is there a future just running titles at Dubbo and Bathurst ? and is that fitting the goals / Objectives of our committee?
So due to Covid19 it’s been a tough year but in fact for a few years now the Division Road Champs have battled with road permissions and it has become an increased concern.

To Western Division Committee and Clubs
Again just to confirm that the Western Division Road Championships will be a victim of the Covid19 Pandemic in 2021 as the Bathurst Championships are obviously cancelled this weekend. We are offering another local Zwift handicap event on Saturday for a bit of social racing, the event will again be hosted by Renshaw’s Pedal Project, as it was well received by all participants last time. Appendix F
Treasurers Report

Things were a little challenging to begin with. Having little experience with the club and none with Triathlon NSW it was all a bit of a learning curve. Initially getting a picture of where the club was sitting financially and in relation to compliance took a bit of effort.
We are now up to date with our details with Department of Fair Trading, The Australian Tax Office and the Australian Business Register, each of which were very outdated. Returns for the Department of Fair Trading have been lodged for all outstanding years.
Thankfully the club was in a very strong financial position with the opening balance 1/7/2024 of $21,496.52. Our closing position year to date is $19,923.91. When considering this balance, it is important to consider the following
 $2000 sponsorship outstanding, Mark Windsor to confirm if this will be forthcoming
 I believe we still have 1 invoice yet to receive from Work Control and at least one
from Belgravia.
The club is extremely grateful for the sponsorship support it has received from D2F/Cityfit, Bathurst Physiotherapy and Capital Chemist. We are also fortunate to have received $1500 in support from NSW Triathlon for running the Women’s Finish Lines not Finish Times round.
Looking forward to 2025/26 I believe it is important that we focus on setting entry fees that cover the costs of holding events. Sponsorship money is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain and the costs of running triathlon events especially road control and pool entry continues to increase.
I am also extremely concerned about the NSW Triathlon push to limit ODL’s to two per person annually. In my opinion this disadvantages clubs as opposed to the big event promotors like Elite and Ironman to whom these restrictions do not apply and who have no interest in encouraging people to take up membership. Bathurst is also in a unique position for our interclub events where we incur significant costs to run our events where it is my understanding the other clubs in our region do not. I feel it is time to investigate if we can make some effort to recover costs from participants in the Interclub event we host.
The increased participation numbers in 24/25 provide the most optimism going forward, If we can continue that trend and convert some of those participants to members our financial position as a club should be reasonable.
