BATHURST CYCLING CLUB CONFIRMS ITSELF AS A FORCE IN ESPORTS CYCLING
Bathurst Cycling Club has again proved itself to be one of the top clubs on the National Esports Cycling Scene finishing in the top 5 of the recent AusCycling National Club Esports Cycling Series which consisted of more than 50 of Australia’s top cycling clubs. That success came after the Bathurst club made the podium in the inaugural National Club Esport Series where they finished 3rd behind the large Waratah Masters and eRandwick Cycling Club.

ACT Cycling Clubs, Vikings and Canberra dominated the latest National Club Series finishing first and second, however the Bathurst, Waratah and Randwick rivalry continued with a tense battle for 3rd place. Large Sydney club eRandwick stormed home to take the final podium position with Bathurst finishing 4th infront series 1 winners Waratah Masters. Behind the big 5 clubs of Australian ESports Cycling in was the Victorian Clubs of Brunswick and Hawthorn who claimed 6th and 7th in the National rankings.

Manager of the Bathurst Esports Team, Mark Windsor explained the secret to their success was having a fun and social side to their approach and therefore attracting a wide range of riders to our local team. Our goal is to get as many team members as possible to the finish line in all of the categories contested in the Club Series. We had 21 Bathurst Club riders finishing the Champs Elysees course in the final round of the series, while that wasn’t a record for the Bathurst club it was an impressive display and set up the club for their continued success in the series. Worth noting the Central West of NSW was prominent in the National Club ranking with Dubbo, Mudgee and Orange all finishing in the top 50 ESports Clubs, following on from the NSW Western Division holding the first CNSW divisional Esports Championships earlier this year.

Finishers in the final round of the recent Series 2 competition included –
Kirsten Howard, Jenn Arnold, Angela Falzarano, Alex Banner, Toireasa Gallagher, Joanne Renshaw, Mark Windsor, Cameron Arnold Matt Cowley, Jack Cannon, Stephen Jackson, Ryan ODonnell, Stuart Renshaw, Steve Bennett, Ray Thorn, Peter Wilson, Ken Addison, Gary Hamer, Glen Carter, Gary Baker, Steve Cox

The AusCycling National Club Esports Cycling Series is divided into A B C and D grades in both male and female categories, with big series point award to the top 30 placings in all 8 grades. Bathurst scored good points in almost all grades contested in the final round particularly D grade where Glen Carter and Toireasa Gallagher where top performers, Glen actually winning the D Grade male event and Toireasa top 5 in the Female D Grade race. Both Carter and Gallagher have a long history in Bathurst cycling and although new to the Virtual On-Line Racing Environment, they are obviously picking up the skills quickly.

Carter was backed up in D grade by Gary Baker and Steve Cox who have been consistent performers for Bathurst throughout the entire series and again finished in the series points. Baker who is the current Western Division Esports Cycling Champion finished top 10 while Cox finished 17th. Also in the points with Gallagher in Women’s D Grade was Joanne Renshaw who was having her first start with the Bathurst Esport team and impressed finishing 18th

Alex Banner one of Bathurst best performers in Series 2 and again finished in the points in C Grade, crossing the finish line in 17th place. While in the male C grade event, Steve Bennett put in his best ride of the series to finish 13th followed in by Ray Thorn also in the top 20 – Nice work also by strong riders Peter Wilson Gary Hamer plus great to see Ken Addison riding in C grade

Points proved very hard to get in men’s B grades – but Cameron Arnold maybe rode his best race of series, recording an impressive 32m 46s which placed him just outside the top 30. Top effort also Matt Cowley, Jack Cannon, Stephen Jackson, Ryan ODonnell and new boy Stuart Renshaw for good times in the very tough B grade men’s race. The local female team impressed in A Grade with Kirsten Howard (6th), Jenn Arnold (7th) and Angela Falzarano (9th) all finishing in the top 10; while in the Men’s A Grade Mark Windsor again finished in the points in 11th place which should see him hold his position in the top 5 overall in the series in A Grade
