Bathurst Isuzu Ute 2Roads Handicap - 24th Oct 2021
It may have been a normal old Bathurst Weekend Club Race, but it was a big deal due to it being the first event after the covid19 Lockdown.
With all racing shut down on 14th August 2021, a quality field assembled for the return of community sport under strict Covid safe restrictions.
The Handicap conditions allowed riders of all levels to compete together, back markers Will Hodges and Luke Tuckwell giving 16minites start away to the race’s front markers.

RACE REPORT-
The two front groups came together early in the race resulting in Angela Falzarano, Claire Scott, Lara Allen, and Cathy Adams holding a good lead over the 12minute group of Nev Krahe, Michael Robinson, Scott Allen, Gary Hamer and Glen Partridge who was returning to racing after a long break due to injury.
Behind them the middle markers where all coming together; the 8:30min bunch (Toireasa Gallagher, Ebony Robinson, Kevin Bell, Brian Draper,
Peter Wilson, Lachlan Crump) where joined by the 6min bunch (Rob Stephen, Rod Esdaile, Charlotte Lovett, Phil Stapleton, Scott James, Cameron Crump and Mick Foran).
But behind them the very fast 3:30min group (Dennis Martin, Xavier Bland, Daniel Googe, David Reece, Drew Tuckwell, Ella Falzarano, Ray Thorn, Tony Barlow and strong Orange rider Lachlan Burrows) was closing the gap and looking likely winners at the mid-way point.
At the back of the field the two backmarker group where in their own private battle with the Block Bunch (2min) Mark Windsor, Jack Cannon, Nic Barrett, Cadel Lovett, Stuart Renshaw and Oscar Hansen trying to hold off the very speedie Scratchmarkers with local champs Will Hodges and Luke Tuckwell starting very fast in an attempt to catch the Block Bunch as soon as possible.
At the front of the race Claire Scott attacked and extended her lead in the second half of the race.
Meanwhile former Bathurst Champion Dennis Martin’s 3:30 bunch caught the middle markers to form a big chase bunch which looked to be the main threat to Claire Scott’s victory prospects.
However with the handicapper gauging things almost perfect the block bunch (2min bunch) suddenly appeared and burst to the lead inside the finial couple of kilometres. But there was still plenty of fight in the 3:30min group with Lachlan Burrows attacking in the final Kilometre and building a potential winning gap. Sensing the danger it was Ella Falzarano that started the chase with ten riders reforming at the front of the race.
With perfect timing Will Hodges and Luke Tuckwell suddenly joined the group, Hodges jumping first and then Tuckwell sprinting home to take and impressive and dramatic win..
Top Orange junior Xavier Bland and local champ Will Hodges made up the podium, with Ray Thorn and Cadel Lovett rounding out the top 5. Oscar Hansen continues to improve in 6th place ahead of Dennis Martin, Jack Cannon, Stuart Renshaw and Tony Barlow who showed his class and race awareness to finish in the top 10. Ella Falzarano also impressed finishing the First Female in 11th overall.
