2018 Santos Tour Down Under
« on: January 25, 2018, 04:49:18 AM »
20th Santos Tour Down Under:
Bathurstís Mark Renshaw has a very Impressive record in the Santos Tour Down Under with many trips to the podium. In fact he was a great chance of the overall win in 2008 when he wore the Leaders Jersey in the Willunga Stage only to lose it in dramatic circumstances to Andre Greipel.
However while he may of been in a battle for the overall win in the 10th Anniversary edition of the race itís been a different story in the lead up to the 20th  Santos Tour Down Under where the Bathurst riders was racing to be fit enough to simply start Australiaís biggest Cycling event.
Yet the Bathurst champion made the start line of the Peopleís Choice Classic and although pushing harder than in previous years he again finished in the top 10 behind world Champ Peter Sagan, Andre Greipel and Caleb Ewan.
In the end the 2018 Santos Tour Down Under would be a good one for Renshaw and his Dimension Data  team not only winning the King of the mountains with young South African Nickolas Dlamini defeating
Richie Porte by 12 points; but also finishing 3rd overall with Tom-Jelte Slagter (making the podium with Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott) and Richie Porte (BMC Racing)).
Should also be noted that Dimension Data finished 2nd to Bahrain Merida in the Teams Classification in the 2018 Tour, only 26second off the win. For the record Mark Renshaw finished the 20th Anniversary Santos Tour Down Under in 95th Place overall.

Renshaw rushed back to Bathurst for some last minute training before the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on 28 January 2018.
