11th Running of the Hurt on Dirt Classic – 17/04/2021

Round 4 of the 2021 Renshaw’s Pedal Project Road Series -  Hurt on Dirt Classic

Raced on the tough Guestinthorpe Loop, the Hurt on Dirt Classic is regarded as one of the more prestigious cycling events on the local Bathurst Cycling Calendar. It’s a tough course which includes a number of dirt sections resulting in some great cycling action.

First held in 2011 the A Grade event has an impressive honour roll with Craig Hutton the leading rider in the record books going into this year’s event with 3 wins ahead of both Dean and Blair Windsor with 2 wins each.
Hutton continuing that success in 2021 defeating Simon Hickey, Nick Barrett and Mark Windsor with promising young rider Cadel Lovett rounding out the top 5 ahead of Jack Cannon and Stuart Renshaw

The pace was on in B Grade with the front trio of Steve Bennett, Ray Thorn and David Reece lapping as quick as the top grade late in the race. Reece launched an attack late in the race only to have both Bennett and Thorn catch and past him on the dirt section with Bennett taking the win. Will Lesh and Tony Shaw chased the trio home to finish in 4th and 5th placings.

Blue Mountains rider Phillip Stapleton was an impressive winner of C Grade with Damien Bennett and Rod Esdaile finishing in the major placings. Next was Robert Stephen, Wayne Powell, Darren Fenton and Cam Crump with Charlotte Lovett 8th in the grade and the top placed female rider on the day. Rounding out the top 10 was Michael Robinson and Peter McKinnon ahead of Ebony Robinson who was the second best female rider on the day.

Kevin Bell continues to dominate D Grade, he defeated Lachlan Crump and David Hyland with Peter Hickey and Will Jeffress rounding out the top 5 ahead of Peter Tutty. Cathy Adams continued her good form finishing 7th ahead of Marian Renshaw and Robyn Partridge.
